DevaCurl Hair Care Products Canadian Class Action

Investigation

CONSUMER LAW GROUP is investigating a Canada-wide class action lawsuit against Deva Concepts, LLC dba DevaCurl for damages relating to Devacurl Hair Care Products on behalf of individuals who have suffered serious side effects after using the products, including hair loss/shedding scalp irritation, excessive shedding, hair loss, thinning, breakage, and/or balding.

Devacurl Hair Care Products include, but are not necessarily limited to No-Poo Original, Low-Poo Original, Low-Poo Delight, No-Poo Decadence, One Condition Original, One Condition Delight, One Condition Decadence, Light Defining Gel, and Ultra Defining Gel.

Devacurl Hair Care Products are sold at premium hair-care stores such as Sephora and Chatters as well as through hair salons and DevaCurl Stylists. They are marketed as a more natural shampoo-replacement or alternative that “allows your scalp to regulate, and your hair to become more of what nature intended.” DevaCurl is advertised as an “innovative new haircare category” and a “game-changing alternative to traditional shampoo” that is the “first-of-its-kind, no-suds conditioning cleanser” that is “free of sulfates, parabens, and silicones” and that is used “to gently cleanse curls without stripping the natural oils they need to look healthy, bouncy and simply gorgeous.”
Consumers seek out the DevaCurl Hair Care Products because they supposedly provide maximum frizz prevention and slows colour fading.

A group of American consumers filed a class action lawsuit in the United States against the company, alleging that its products were causing them to suffer from scalp irritation, damaged hair and hair loss and that the Defendant has failed to provide adequate warning regarding the serious risks and negative side effects associated with the use of their DevaCurl Hair Care Products.

Despite notice and knowledge of the problems caused by DevaCurl Hair Care Products, the Defendant nonetheless has failed to advise consumers of the serious risks associated with them and continues to mislead consumers about their safety. Moreover, DevaCurl Hair Care Products have not been recalled, nor have customers been offered proper compensation for their damages.
